This high-quality ceramic mezuzah, made in Prague, resembles the Old-New Synagogue in Prague's Jewish Quarter, the oldest preserved synagogue in Europe. It was built at the end of the 13th century.  According to legend, however, its foundation stones were brought by angels from the destroyed Jerusalem Temple "on condition" (Hebrew: Al-tenai) that they would be returned after the Temple was rebuilt. The old synagogue was held in high esteem in Prague's Jewish Town and in Jewish communities abroad. It was also shrouded in numerous legends and legends. According to one of them, the wings of angels turned into doves protected the synagogue from the fire in the ghetto and therefore it has remained miraculously intact to this day. According to another legend, in the synagogue's attic are the remains of the Golem, an artificial creature made of clay that Rabbi Loew brought to life to protect the Prague community.
